“The task demands intellectual honesty. I have little patience with efforts to make Scripture say something other than what it says, through appeals to linguistic or cultural subtleties. The exegetical situation is straightforward: we know what the text says…
I think it important to state clearly that we do, in fact, reject the straightforward commands of Scripture, and appeal instead to another authority when we declare that same-sex unions can be holy and good. And what exactly is that authority? We appeal explicitly to the weight of our own experience and the experience thousands of others have witnessed to, which tells us that to claim our own sexual orientation is in fact to accept the way in which God has created us. By so doing, we explicitly reject as well the premises of the scriptural statements condemning homosexuality — namely, that it is a vice freely chosen, a symptom of human corruption, and disobedience to God’s created order.”

CPC Sermons - Overview of sermons before [Hunger For Holiness 8/27/11 Sermon]
4 Pillars of Christian Life
- Prayer (praying to Christ)
- Bible Study (reading/learning about Christ)
- Worship (worshiping Christ)
- Christian Service (working with Christ)
These pillars keep us connected and must be exercised regularly. You can’t pray too much, read about God too much, etc.
In previous sermons we learned that…
SERMON I
- Genuine encounters with the Holy God will change you mentally, spiritually even physically. Worshiping should change.
- God’s holy presence can be a blessing to those that worship properly or a consuming fire to others. Not everyone that comes to worship gets blessed some get cursed. The word becomes condemnation to them as 1) they didn’t come to worship and 2) don’t plan to do anything that they’ve learned. So rather than the word being a testimony for them it becomes a witness against them.
- When you do not know the Lord it is hard to reverence Him. So a lot of irreverence is due to a shallow concept of who God.
- We have to prepare ourselves when we come to the Lord, physically, mentally and morally.
SERMON II
- Getting Israel (the people) out of Egypt was easy for God but getting Egypt (customs, worship, lifestyle) out of Israel was very difficult for God.
- It is difficult to become God minded on sabbath when you have been secular minded all week. Which is why some of our worship suffers. You have to spend all week detaching yourself from the secular world and stay detached. After sabbath is over stay in Christ on Sunday, Monday, etc.
- Our long years of being influenced by the world causes us to long for its priorities even when we try to worship.
- In order to truly worship God you must love the Lord & despise the world.
SERMON III
- We learned that the sabbath is not only a feast but the first feast (Lev. 23).
- The sabbath is the foundation of worship. It helps to prepare you for the following week.
- The sabbath feast celebrates God as creator
- Worshiping sabbath is to worship Christ, Heavens creative source.
